What does selling on Etsy and Shopify with a US company mean?

It means setting up your Etsy shop or Shopify store with a US company's details and receiving payouts into a bank account in the company's name. You enter the store details; the platform verifies the account and decides which payment options open up.

Etsy is a marketplace: buyers search on Etsy and see your products on Etsy's pages. Shopify is software for running your own store website. On both, the shop location, the country of the bank account and the company details affect fees and payment options. Our guide on which service when explains which LaunchUS service helps at which stage.

How do shop details affect fees on Etsy?

Etsy's sell page says that during setup you choose your shop location, currency, how you get paid and how you are billed. According to the same page, fees depend on where your bank account is located, and the payment processing fee differs by bank country.

Etsy's sell page (accessed 25 September 2026) gives this information. Current listing, transaction, processing and advertising fees for your region are on Etsy's fee pages; we do not repeat amounts here because they vary by region and date. A US company with a US bank account in its name lets you enter these details through your company. Etsy decides which fee schedule applies and whether to verify the account.

In which countries is Shopify Payments available?

Shopify Payments is Shopify's own payment processing, available only to stores whose business is located in a supported country. The United States is on Shopify's list. A store in a country that is not on the list uses a third-party payment provider instead.

Shopify's supported countries page (accessed 12 October 2026) links to bank account and business verification requirements for each country. When you apply with a US company, Shopify reviews whether you meet them, and the details you submit must match the real business.

How do Shopify plans and third-party payment fees work?

Shopify charges a monthly plan fee. If you use a third-party payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify may add a transaction fee on top of the plan. According to the pricing page, that fee depends on the plan: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced.

Shopify planMonthly price, billed yearlyExtra fee with a third-party provider
Basic$192%
Grow$541%
Advanced$2990.6%

Shopify's pricing page (accessed 12 October 2026) also shows higher amounts with monthly billing, and prices can vary by region. Card processing fees are in the payment provider's own terms.

What does a payment provider application ask for?

Payment providers ask for the business's legal name, country and state of formation, tax ID, bank account and the ID of the person managing the business. For a US company the tax ID is the EIN. The provider verifies these details and decides whether to open the account.

Our guide to a US company for Stripe walks through one common provider's application. We get your EIN; the IRS issues the number. See our EIN service for the details.

What should you know about addresses?

The LaunchUS Registered Agent address is for receiving official state mail. It is not a general business address or a verification address, so do not use it as a verification address with a marketplace or payment provider. Platforms may ask for the business address and the manager's address separately and verify them with documents; the platform decides what it accepts.

Our Registered Agent service receives, scans and files official mail in your vault.

Step by step: preparing a store with a US company

This sequence shows who does what when you set up an Etsy shop or Shopify store with a US company. Platform requirements can change, so read the official pages before each application. Each step names who does the work and who decides, so it is clear which steps are yours and which are ours.

  1. We form your company. You enter your details for a Wyoming or Delaware LLC; the state approves. See LLC formation.
  2. We get your EIN. The IRS issues the number; the letter arrives in your vault.
  3. You apply for a bank account. The payout account is in the company's name; the bank decides.
  4. You set up the store. Enter the shop location, currency and payout details with your company information.
  5. You choose the payment option. On Shopify, apply for Shopify Payments or connect a third-party provider; on Etsy, set up your payment account.
  6. The platform verifies. Opening the account and enabling payment options is the platform's decision.

Who applies, and who decides?

You apply for the store and the payment account; the platform and the payment provider review them. LaunchUS does not open stores or payment accounts for you. We form your company, get your EIN and keep the company documents applications ask for ready in your vault; see pricing for plan contents.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a US company to sell on Etsy?

Etsy accepts sellers from many countries and sets fees by where your bank account is located. A US company is not a requirement; it is an option for running the shop and payouts through a US company. Etsy decides on verification.

Why isn't Shopify Payments available in my country?

Shopify's support page says Shopify Payments is available only to stores whose business is located in a supported country. Stores in other countries use third-party payment providers.

Can I apply for Shopify Payments with a US company?

The United States is on the supported countries list. When you apply, Shopify reviews whether you meet its bank account and business verification requirements and makes the decision.

Can I use the Registered Agent address as my store address?

No. The Registered Agent address receives official state mail; it is not a general business address or a verification address. Provide the address documents the platform asks for with your own address details.
